PSSR Report

Regatta write-up for Puget Sound Spring Regatta (PSSR) on April 6-7, 2024

By Jonathan McKee

The 2024 Tasar season kicked off April 6-7 at Shilshole, with CYC hosting the PSSR regatta. Saturday featured 15-20 knots from the south and 4 races. Most of us were sort of shaking the rust off after a long winter, but there was close racing throughout the fleet. The McKees carried on their Worlds winning form by winning all 4 races, with Derek and Becca scoring a string of seconds. Jackson McCoy was also up there, with Ellie Ungar/Keily Gleason, Casey Pruitt/Farzana Mohamedali, Evan Sjostedt, and Brian Johnson/Lucy Jones all showing well at times. CYC did a great job of setting the courses and keeping the time between races short. Which was nice because it was pretty cold!

Sunday was a carbon copy of Saturday, except it got a little windier towards the end, and we got to do some reaching, which is always fun. The McKees won 2 more races but the Bottles were getting much closer. Some of the teams had different crews for Sunday, so everyone was kind of sorting it out. Libby and Jonathan had to go in, so Derek and Becca won the last two races, setting up a tie for first!

Jonathan and Libby McKee 14
Derek Bottles/Becca Galfer 14
Jackson McCoy/ 25
Ellie Ungar/Keily Gleason 33
Casey Pruitt/Farzana Mohamedali 38
Evan Sjostedt/ 41
Brian Johnson/Lucy Jones 49

The next regatta is Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park on May 18-19. This is sure to be one of the best events all year, with beautiful sailing and spectacular scenery. Sign up on Clubspot, and make accomodation reservations through the resort website. Following is another beautiful venue in Westsound, Orcas Island, on June 29-30. And don't forget there is casual training/racing every Tasar Tuesday at Shilshole.
