North
American Tasar Association
President’s Address – June 2003
North American Tasar Sailors:
June is here and the living is easy! This is the time of year
in the
Pacific Northwest that Tasar sailors start to come out from the
corners they
have been hiding in. Of course, we have had lots of activity and
fun for
several months now, but I know many of you are just starting your
Tasar
program for the year. First things first, PAY YOUR DUES!
I was excited to write this address about all the great things
that are
going on with the Tasar class here in North America, but then I
checked in
at Tasar.org to see how many members we have. As of today, it lists
26
members. My constituents total 26 members? I was under the impression
that
I was leading a powerful organization of active and supportive
members. I’m
sure that is still the case, we are just a little delayed with
the process.
Please print out the form and pay your dues! Thank You!
On to the good, positive stuff: The NATA has held 5 well attended
regattas
this year, two in Seattle, two in Vancouver, and one in Victoria.
The last
two events have had 25 and 20 entries respectively. It is great
to see new
faces and old enjoying what the Tasar can offer.
In Seattle, our fleet has not seen this type of activity in years.
We had
19 boats out last Thursday night and this number promises to grow.
In
Vancouver, Thilo Giese & Sandra Towers have begun conducting
racing clinics
for their fleet. This is one of the best things about Tasar sailing.
Our
leaders constantly attempt to assist others in the fleet.
Our builder and supplier, John Evetts at Alvis Marine has been
working
feverishly to outfit us all with the gear we need. I filled in
and placed
an order for 10 different US sailors recently. Until you try this,
never
underestimate how difficult it can be to handle many different
sailors’ very
specific needs. Keep up the good work John and the Tasar Class
thanks you!
The 2003 World Championship is just around the corner. If you
are
attending, you are in for a treat and a regatta experience unlike
any other
you have had. Big Parties, formal dinners, free water, lunches,
large
amounts of door prizes, new trophies, a new launch ramp built specifically
for the worlds, oh and I think there will be great racing. As a
class we
owe gratitude to Todd and Leslie Blumel, Scott and Penny Davis
and their
many volunteers who are doing a professional job to make this happen.
(Hey
Todd, I have an 18 wheeler semi, that carries my Tasar and parts,
can you
find me a place to park it? oh and I need a dog sitter for my rotweiler
and
Burmese mountain dog.)
Beyond the World Championship we have a whole list of other events
taking
place this summer. The racing is tougher than ever, but the fun
factor is
going up with the amount of sailors out there. Put the North American
Championship on your calendar now. September 6-7 at Jericho Sailing
Club in
Vancouver, BC…
As always, I’m here to help you with your Tasar sailing
program. Please let
me know if you have any questions, suggestions or observations.
