Notice of Race

1 Rules

This regatta will be governed by the racing 1997-2000 Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of United States Sailing Association, except as any of these changed by the sailing instructions, the applicable Local Class/Association Rules and by the sailing instructions.

2 Alterations of Racing Rules

The racing rules will be modified in accordance with racing rule 3.1(a) as follows:

2.1 RRS 1997-2000 Rule 64 "Penalties and Exoneration" will be altered by adding: "For a violation of PIYA Safety Requirements the protest committee may impose a penalty less than disqualification."

2.2 RRS 1997-2000 rule 31.2 are amended by adding: "Yachts which cause damage to the committee boat while on station shall be subject to protest by the race committee and shall be liable for any damages."

3 Eligibility and Entry

Eligibility requirements for boats are:

Any one-design keelboat class under 36 feet L.O.A. with seven or more registered starters.
Any one-design centerboard class with five or more registered starters.
Eligibility requirements for competitors are: Membership in a US Sailing member club.

3.1 To enter an event, entrants must submit a completed entry form and pay appropriate fees by the entry deadline. Advance registration can be made via the SYC website, www.seattleyachtclub.org or in person at CYC on Thursday May 17 from 6pm-9pm. The entry deadline is Thursday, May 17, 2001. There will be a $20 late fee for registering after this date. 

3.2 Sailing Instructions and dinner tickets may be picked up Saturday, May 19 at CYC from 0800 - 0930.

3.3 Entry fees are as follows:
Singlehanded $40 USD (includes 1 dinner ticket)
Doublehanded $55 USD (includes 2 dinner tickets)
3+ Crew Boats $85 USD (includes 3 dinner tickets)
Additional dinner tickets may be purchased for $15 at registration

4 Safety

4.1 Yachts must comply with the current PIYA Category requirements specified in the Specific Sailing Instructions. A list of these requirements is available from the SYC Sailing Office.

4.2 All competitors must wear a Personal Flotation Device when on the water for this event. This includes the keelboats classes.

5 Responsibility

5.1 Occasionally sailboat racing had resulted in injury or loss of life. All competitors in SYC events participate at their own risk. It is the responsibility of each skipper to inform their crew of the risks of sailboat racing, to make sure they understand and accept those risks, to decide whether their crew is competent and adequate for the event, and to decide whether to start or continue in a race.
